LABGARD CONTAINMENT HOOD Model NU-813 is offered both as a Class I Safety Cabinet equipped with a HEPA filter and as a light duty ductless Fume Hood equipped with a sorbent filter. In the Class I configuration, the NU-813 provides personnel protection for handling low risk aerosols and particulate matter and as a ductless Fume Hood, it provides protection from solvents such as those employed in cytology. The use of an airfoil on the NU-813 may be necessary depending on the configuration of the installation to ensure that no backflow occurs. The vena contracta must be inhabited from forming or must occur outside of the cabinet to prevent backflow. The HEPA filter in the Class I Safety Cabinet configuration will remove 99.99% of all particles larger and smaller than 0.3 mc. Larger particles are encouraged to fall into the pan, as the air turns to enter the blower or particulates in the air stream tend to fall out as the blower system is turned off and air velocities decrease. The pan is held in place with four (4) knurled nuts and should be cleaned periodically (see Drawing ACD-06090). The NU-813 has an exhaust collar that can be coupled to the plant exhaust system making the cabinet suitable for work with dilute preparations of chemical carcinogens.
