The equipment is made by James H.Heal & Company Ldt, UK in year 1999 and it is in very good operational condition and comes with plenty of original auxiliaries with it. The machine model is Nu-Martindale 406 and it has 6 specimens. The principle of the Martindale test is that the specimens are rubbed against a standard abradent in a continuously changing pattern. In this machine the sample holder (sample diameter 38 mm) and abrasion table (test specimens diameter 140 mm) are driven by two reciprocating mechanism’s acting at right angle to each other. The resulting motion carries the test specimens in constantly changing pattern across the abrading surfaces. This pattern in known as Lissajous figure. This 406 model has large black lid LCD graphics panel and advanced microprocessor controlled operation and reporting system.
This machine can perform three types of motion tests:
1. Abrasion test with Lissajous figure and 60.5 mm stroke
2. Pilling test with Lissajous figure and 24.0 mm stroke and,
3. Straight line test which motion becomes gradually widening ellipse until it forms another straight line in the opposite direction.
