This instrument is an exceptionally well specified ESCALAB MkII with twin anode XPS and AES. Features:
i. A monochromator is fitted but the crystal has been removed (included).
ii. LEG 200 electron gun. This has a resolution of around 100 nm which would be used for direct (pulse counted) AES but there is a lock in amp in the rack so my tendency would be to increase the spot size to 1-2 micron (increase current to around 1 uA) and run with phase sensitive detection.
iii. Third party PC based system fitted
iv. Three channeltron array.
v. Small area XPS depends good for about 150 um in the X direction, 200 um in the Y direction.
vi. An autocarousel for unattended operation
vii. AG61 electron impact ion source capable imaging (limited by spot size) using the AES/SEM imaging set up.
viii. Scintillator for of 500 nm SEM imaging
ix. Residual gas analyzer
x. Prep chamber with heated sample stage.
xi. Titanium sublimation pump on the analysis chamber

Thoroughly evaluated and preped for shipping by a VG field service engineer.

In summary a very complete and original 1986 system. Not used excessively (not heavily baked).
