RailWheel Production line including
10,000 ton Schloemann Hydraulic
4-Column Closed Die Forging Press ñ Re:23469
This is a classic Rail Wheel manufacturing setup. Further, the primary components are designed by
Schloemann, an outstanding producer of Forging Machinery. In addition to Rail wheels, this line is
also suited to the production of crane wheels ñ any type of steel wheel, gear blanks, etc.
Below is a list of components however, the primary production machinery making up the wheel
production line includes a 10,000 Ton Schloemann Hydraulic Closed Die Forging Press, a
Schloemann Wheel Rolling Mill (like a Ring Mill) and a 3,000 ton Schloemann Hydraulic Punching &
Coining Press. This complete line is still installed even though is has not run production for a number
of years. It was used to forge railroad wheels, crane wheels and gear blanks. It can be seen in itís
original state ñ still installed.
For Rail Wheels, starting billet size used was 13î ñ 24î in diameter weighing between 850 lbs. ñ
3,500 lbs. (pounds). The 10,000 ton press blank-forges the billet into a circular wheel shape. The
forged blank is then moved to a Scholemann Ring Rolling mill which has 2 rolls, each driven by a
400 HP motor. The last operation is performed by the 3,000 ton Schloemann hydraulic press which
pierces the hole on the center of the rail wheel and forge forms the middle section pushing it out.
The line consists of the following:
ï Stock Bench
ï Block Scale
ï Block Conveyor
